Keeping your Tampa pool clean doesn’t have to be a constant effort if you keep a weekly schedule of common pool maintenance.
All pools a different and have a personality of their own, but there are some common pool cleaning that should be done on a weekly schedule to ensure that your pool stays fresh and inviting year round.
Here are our top 5 tips that will help you keep your Tampa Bay pool sparkling clean.
1) Skim Debris
The fastest and easiest way to keep your Tampa pool clean is skimming to pools surface every few days. Waiting to long to skim can result in debris sinking to the bottom of the pool making it more difficult to get to.
2) Clean out Strainer Baskets
At least once a week you will want to remove and clean out your pools strainer baskets. You will notice keeping strainer baskets clean will also reduce your pools chlorine demand as well as help the pools overall circulation.
3) Vacuum the Pool
Vacuuming your pool once a week not only will help keep your pools water cleaner, but will again help reduce the amount of chlorine that your pool demands.
4) Brush Pool Walls and Tile
Another addition to your weekly pool cleaning schedule must include brushing your pool walls and tile. Brushing your pools walls and tile weekly will remove the build up of calcium and reduce the algae that builds up on your pool walls. The material your pool walls are made of dictates what kind of cleaning tools you should use. Select a stiff brush for plaster-lined concrete pools and a softer brush for vinyl or fiberglass walls.
5) Clean Your Pool Filter
Though this may not be necessary on a weekly schedule, it must be on the list. Cleaning your pools filter depends on what type of pool filter you have, cartridge, sand or diatomaceous earth. Though the cleaning procedures are different for each one, they all will require periodic cleaning depending on how often the pool is used.
Cleaning your pools filter more often than recommended can actually impede the filtration process. A clean filter is less efficient than one with a mild amount of dirt in it because the dirt helps trap other particles, which removes debris from the water. A sign that it is most likely time for you to clean your pools filter is an increase in flow between the pressure gauge and flow meter. Clean the pool filter when the difference reaches 10 to 15 pounds (4.5 to 6.8 kilograms) per square inch.
Though we could certainly add a few things, such as keeping your water level maintained, but doing these above 5 pool cleaning and maintenance procedures on a weekly basis will help keep your Tampa Bay pool clean!

We just moved into a house with a pool and I am trying to learn morea bout taking care of it. I had no idea that you could vacuum a pool. Do you just leave the vacuum in the pool and it does the cleaning, or do you have to move it around yourself? Will you need to use any cleaners along with this? Thanks for sharing all this great information!
Most pool vacuums now roam the pool. You still have to clean it manually from time to time, the vacuum will miss spots you will have to clean yourself, but it takes some of the work out of it.
It ‘s really great to know.Thank you for sharing.
My wife and I are planning on getting a pool in our backyard but want to make sure we know how to properly care for it so we can enjoy it freely. It really helped when you mentioned how the frequency in which you clean your pool filters will depend on what type your pol uses. I can see that understanding how and when to clean your pool’s filtration system can help you keep it well maintained and avoid problems later in life.
My husband and I are thinking of installing a pool in our backyard now that we have grandkids. It’s good to know that brushing off the walls of the pool removes a buildup of calcium. I want my grandkids to enjoy the water, but I don’t want to have to do all of the cleaning myself, so maybe I’ll hire a service.
My fiance and I have a pool in our backyard and we have never had a pool before. We aren’t sure how to maintain it. It makes sense to brush the tiles to ensure that they are algae free like you said. This all seems like a lot more work than me or my fiance could keep up with so we may hire a weekly pool service. Thanks!
That is super interesting that vacuuming my pool would reduce the amount of chlorine that the pool needs for cleaning. I travel for work a lot, so I have trouble going and cleaning my pool more frequently than once a month. My wife has been telling me to hire a pool cleaning service to keep it clean. Now, I am wondering if you would save any money by going and hiring it.
