4 Pro Spring Cleaning Tips for your Swimming Pool

by | Apr 23, 2020

With the lovely weather of spring upon us and summer on its way, it’s a great opportunity for you to take a look at your pool and consider giving it a spring clean! Getting your pool in tip top condition is the perfect way to prepare before you get outdoors again to enjoy your pool and time together with friends and family. There are a few things that you should do to get your pool back into great condition after the winter though, so here’s our top 4 pro spring cleaning tips for your swimming pool.

1) Trim back the vegetation and cut away any overhanging branches.

This is especially important if the plants are evergreens and have been growing all winter. If you open your pool before you have cleared away the vegetation you could end up with a pool full of leaves, branches and other debris. Also check the pump and remove any leaves or debris that may have built up over the winter season.

2) The Pool Cover.

If there is sitting, stagnant water on your pool cover then you will need to pump it off. If your pool cover is not impermeable then it will likely have leaked through already, however, remove all leaves and debris from the cover before you open it up. This can easily be done by simply sweeping it all away.

3) The Pool Water.

Clean and remove any plugs from your pool’s skimmer, then put it back and insert the skimmer baskets. Then, if you need to, make sure you top up the water levels in your pool and if anything, you will want to add more than you need to compensate for the evaporation that will take place in the warmer weather.

4) Filter Pump.

The swimming pool’s filter pump is essential for maintaining clean water. Thoroughly check the pump for any cracks that may have occurred over colder winter months and using reliable Teflon tape to help you secure them, replace the draining plugs.

Before you turn on your pool pump’s motor it’s a good idea to prime it with some clean water. You should also apply a good coating of pool lubricant to the pump’s lid before replacing it.

Getting ready for the Warmer Months.

It’s a fantastic feeling looking forward to the sunny summer months after the first of the lovely spring days have sprung. Once you have got your pool all set and ready to go you don’t have to wait long to start enjoying your yard and pool with friends and families, cooking food on the barbecue and making the very most of the pool season right from day one!
